Upgrade iPhone 3GS to 3.1.2 and Jailbreak

I guess I’m going to give in to the temptation and attempt to upgrade my iPhone 3GS to 3.1.2. It’s a step by step guide to anyone who wants to do it.

4:31PM		On Faisal Kapadia’s insistence, I’m doing it. God help me.

4:34PM		Phone backup initiated
4:40PM		What’s taking the backup so long?
4:42PM	Faisal Kapadia sends scary message saying:	“Just update keep that Blake snow thing on desktop once phone reboots after update u Clio on the make it rain button when phone reboots again u dissconevt go to into apps clil snow and open wifi clil snow again from package screen and voilà phone jailbroken”
4:43PM	Faisal Kapadia suffers from iPhone’s clumsy keyboard	“Lol and my typing still not uptopar” >> It never will be bro. iPhone’s keyboard is it's Achille’s Heal
5:20PM		Got my haircut while reading the funnies (politician’s remarks) in the newspaper
5:21PM		Looks reasonably comforting. No?
5:31PM		Feeling nervous. Should I click the button?
5:34PM		The evil task has begun
5:45PM		Oops. A little snag? Or an ominous warning of things to be? Maybe I should wait till tomorrow and let Faisal Kapadia do it for me?
5:45PM		Project postponed till tomorrow.
1:07AM		Have my bag of chips and a lot of motivation. Let’s start6 the process again. Backup completed
1:08AM		Taken screenshots of all applications so I remember how my phone was configured in case everything doesn’t recover.
1:09AM		I use Rock instead of cydia since it keeps a track of how the phone is configured. Making sure it has a backup.
1:12AM		Transferring all snapshots to the computer in cast they are lost during the upgrade.
1:19AM		Clicked the update button
1:20AM		The magic question.
1:21AM		Yada Yada
1:22AM		Do you agree to sell your soul to the devil? Yep. You can save the contract in case you want to come back and read what an idiot you were.
1:23AM		Wait while we prepare to turn your iPhone into a brick, even though we charged you good money from it. It’s funny how Apple refuses to sell it in certain markets, yet doesn’t refuse to take money from the sales. But that’s OK. As long as I’m doing it to hurt the usual enemy, I’m sure Allah will forgive me. Un Hun.

2:32AM		Locate the magic icon on the desktop

2:40AM		Things look good. PHone resyncing.
2:44AM		A new backup in progress. I didn’t start it though.
		Status of phone
		Restart phone
		Find blackra1n and run it. Install Cydia / Rock and Sn0w.
		Rock will notice missing applications
		It informs you what to do
		Go to manage –> Settings –> Restore from Backup
		Confirm the reinstallation
3:12AM		Things are exactly as they were
